A Brief Narrative

This chosen career of mine has been my long time passion since I learned how to hold a pencil back then, when I was too young even for kindergarten school. When all I can ever do was just to doodle and draw, but somehow cannot even write my own name. The inclination goes on until grade school, that more of the pages of my school notebooks were full of my drawings than the written lessons from the blackboard. One time, a teacher scolded me for not listening while I was just sitting there inside the classroom minding nothing but just doodling and sketching with my pencil. The teacher asked me then to bring my mother to school so that she can talk to her, and bring up to her attention what seemed to be a  problem she was noticing about me. And the result later…. what she had seen as a mischievous problem in me many years ago, is indeed my well-loved career now.

Yes, even before the time I entered college, I already knew what to take up as my course and eventually as my profession. So, I went to Far Eastern University in Manila and finished Bachelor of Fine Arts major in advertising. My father who was working as an art director that time, was equally glad with my decision as I was. Just like the old adage goes “Like father like daughter”.  After graduation, in two weeks time, I landed a job in a Design Studio that paved the way to build a path in Arts and Graphic Design. Back then, computer generated art work was just being introduced in the art and media scene, and as expected, I started it the hard way, the old school process, doing manual advertising design by hands using assorted brushes, air brush, paints and other sorts of medium that we used in the design studio for all the designs and artworks that we presented to our clients.

Anyway before I graduated, I was already employed as an in-house artist in the Marketing Services Department of Sterling Paper Group of Companies, to which I cherish a very pleasant, fun and happy work experience to these days.

From there, I have gained more experiences by working in digital marketing /advertising agency, BPO, service bureau, animation studio, and different industries of various companies in an in-house marketing department, working solidly in creative position as a Graphic Designer, and enjoying every minute of it up to the present times. The journey isn't always easy,  there are times when I am being put into a tight spot, and stressful deadlines but it is always worth it especially when you love what you do and you're passionate about it. The acknowledgment of the effort, hard work, and contribution to making a project successful is what it makes even more rewarding and make every long day worthwhile.
